Meet Elise Lindstrom, our Dietitian for the July 15 Walk With a Dietitian...

The fourth program of our new walking series Walk With a Dietitian on the Fall Creek Greenway is quickly approaching, and we are excited to introduce you to the Dietitian that will be leading the walk. Elise Lindstrom, MA, RDN is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and she is the Food Systems Consultant at the Marion County Public Health Department and the Nutrition Chair for Indianapolis’s Top 10 Coalition. She works to ensure equitable availability and access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for all central Indiana residents. We sat down for a conversation with Elise to discuss the July 15th, 2023 walk, what participants can expect, and about her love of Indy Greenways.

What should users expect if they participate in the program?

The topic for this walk will be “Sneaky Sources of Sodium”. Ever wonder which foods are highest in sodium? Did you know that most sodium in our diets doesn’t come from the saltshaker? Then this is the walk for you! Participants can expect to gain knowledge over this topic while also getting the chance to be physically active while walking one of Indianapolis' beautiful greenways.

Why are the greenways so important?

I love the trails and greenways in our city! They are important for SO many reasons. Trails and greenways provide an easily accessible and safe place to walk, run, bike, skate, or push a stroller. I like to walk and bike on Indy’s Greenways (the Monon Trail and the Central Canal Towpath are personal favorites) to escape from the city and be surrounded by nature and wildlife without actually leaving the city. A quick walk or bike ride helps me to reconnect with myself and de-stress before or after work. It’s a form of self-care that is convenient, safe, and good for both my physical and mental health.
